Verlan is above all a philosophy that wants to use its merchandising to infect everyone. It’s not a simple clothing brand. The word “verlan” identifies the slang definitively established in France around the ’80s, which allowed to create a sense of belonging among the boys and to reinforce it through this wordplay, which involves the creation of neologisms through the inversion of the syllables : in fact “à l’envers” (pronounced a lɑ’vɛʀ), which translated means on the contrary, is transformed into “verlan” (veʀ’lɑ).
