TED Unveiled New Intro Animation by Ordinary Folk & Colours and Shapes Collaboration for a Global Stage

TED’s website received a refresh with a brand new intro animation, a collaboration between Ordinary Folk and Colours and Shapes. With just five seconds to make an impact, the animation needed to capture the essence of TED: a powerful catalyst for spreading ideas across the globe.

Concepts Explored

The team explored several concepts, all focusing on the theme of sharing and connection

Approach 1: This approach used particles and light waves interacting in a vast space, symbolizing TED’s role as a catalyst within a vast network of global ideas.

Approach 2: This concept took a more organic approach, with information flowing and morphing to reveal the TED logo. This represented TED as a container for the vast amount of knowledge shared on its platform.

The Chosen Design: The final design featured the TED logo built from a structure of ideas, highlighting the platform itself as the mechanism for sharing these ideas with the world.

Behind the Scenes: The basic particle spread animation was done entirely in Cinema 4D. Various passes were composited with the TED vector logo and other effects in After Effects to achieve the final result.
